Sari-Sari Storybooks
I wrote and served as a creative collaborator in producing multilingual children's stories from different regions in the Philippines together with local artists.
Sari-Sari Storybook's (SSS) mission is to not only preserve and celebrate the diversity of Philippine languages, but to also create new stories that capture local culture and traditions that today's children can relate to and enjoy.
The first book of the series, Melo, is a story about a timid young Ivatan boy and his loving grandma. Together with SSS founder Christina Newhard, we developed the story with the Ivatan community through group storytelling sessions and interviews with locals. Melo served as the prototype to obtain further support for the succeeding books.

Lola Marta
Documenting Ivatan culture as we developed the story, Melo the Umang Boy, for Sari-Sari Storybooks. Lola Marta was the inspiration for Melo's grandma Lucia in the book. Here she is singing a traditional Ivatan laji.
Melo was developed with and for the wonderful people of Batanes.

Hands
A silent film montage, shot with a Bolex 16mm film camera featuring friends and neighbors.

Save The Radio
A practice on long takes capturing one of my favorite fleeting moments with my then-roommates...unfortunately tainted by my less than stellar camera work. But oh well, that's life. Focus on the making of a bop. Good luck getting this track out of your head.
